The Shamans Rattle
Apart from the
Medicine drum the other most commonly
used healing tool of the Shaman is the Rattle.
A Shaman would make their own rattles some were made for healing using
materials that were pointed out to the shaman that possessed healing energy,
and others for spirit work.
The Rattles were made out of many different items such as Turtle shells,
Snake, Buffalo testicles and rawhide. They were filled with many different
items to make the rattle sound from corn seeds to teeth to crystal chips
and bone pieces.
A shamans rattle possessed strong powers and were often kept in their
own special medicine bag.
Today rattles are still used for healing but more often they are used
to help the shaman go into trance state to connect with the spirit world,
where they are guided or given advise on what to do to help those in need.
Rattles for those drawn to them are very powerful tools, and should always
be used by those with light in their heart.
Little Hawk holds 2.5-hour workshops where you will learn how to make a basic raw hide rattle in the shamans’ way. How to use them and when to use them will also be explained in the workshop. All materials will be provided and are included in the workshop price.
